Having been dropped from her role as Cara Dune in The Mandalorian and its associated spin-off projects by Disney due to controversial comments on social media, Gina Carano has now revealed details of her first post-Star Wars project, with the former MMA star-turned-actress teaming with conservative media company The Daily Wire for the revenge thriller White Knuckle.
Scripted by Eric Red (The Hitcher, Near Dark) from his own novel, White Knuckle will see Carano portraying “a strong-willed woman who survives an attempt by serial killer-trucker ‘White Knuckle’. Haunted by her encounter and the cops’ inability to catch her tormentor, she partners with a trucker to end the killer’s reign of terror.”
In addition to starring, Carano will produce the film alongside Dallas Sonnier (Bone Tomahawk) and Amanda Presmyk (Dragged Across Concrete) of Bonfire Legend. The Daily Wire, which is ramping up its film and TV ambitions with several projects in development, plans to distribute the movie exclusively in the U.S., with Voltage Pictures handling international sales.
“I’m completely ignited to be creating this thriller with The Daily Wire and Bonfire Legend,” Carano told Deadline. “I feel I am exactly where I want and need to be at this moment in my life; it feels as if I have wings.”
White Knuckle will shoot in Tennessee, Utah and Montana, and is aiming to release in the first half of 2022.
