Game of Thrones and Solo star Emilia Clarke is set to star alongside Oscar-nominated 12 Years A Slave actor Chiwetel Ejiofor in a Science-Fiction romantic comedy which tackles the responsibility of co-parenting in a near future society. Directed by Madame Bovary‘s Sophie Barthes, the production is set to go before cameras in March 2022.
According to Variety The Pod Generation will tale place in a world where AI is all the rage and nature is becoming a distant memory, and will tell the story of Rachel (Clarke) and Alvy (Ejiofor), a New York couple who are ready to take their relationship to the next level and start a family. Rachel’s work gives them a chance to use a new tool developed by a tech giant, Pegasus, which offers couples the opportunity to share pregnancy on a more equal footing via detachable artificial wombs, or pods. Alvy, a botanist and devoted purist, has doubts, but his love for Rachel prompts him to take a leap of faith. And so begins the wild ride to parenthood in this brave new world.
Clarke is in the process of adding yet more science-fiction to her CV as she’s currently filming Marvel’s Secret Invasion for Disney+, while Ejiofor has also been working the same universe having completed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness earlier in the year.
Decent romantic comedies are few and far between these days, with the last being Palm Springs, and before that you’re reaching back to another Emilia Clarke vehicle Last Christmas (and I’ll fight anyone who says otherwise), so what do you make of this pairing?
