Academy narrows Best Visual Effects Oscar shortlist down to ten

Earlier this month it was announced that twenty films were in the running for an Oscar nomination for Best Visual Effects at the 88th Academy Awards, and now the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has revealed that the shortlist is down to ten contenders:

Ant-Man
Avengers: Age of Ultron
EX Machina
Jurassic World
Mad Max: Fury Road
The Martian
The Revenant
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Tomorrowland
The Walk

Given the chop from the last round of voting are Bridge of Spies, Chappie, Everest, Furious 7, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, In the Heart of the Sea, Jupiter Ascending, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Spectre and Terminator Genisys.

The final five nominees will be announced on January 14th ahead of the Oscars on February 28th.
