Star Wars: The Force Awakens continues leave box office records in its wake, with the film setting a Christmas Day record yesterday of $49.3 million in the States, crushing the previous high set by Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes in 2009.
Domestically, The Force Awakens is now the fastest movie to reach $400 million, having banked $440.4 million by close of play yesterday. It is on course to pull in the biggest second weekend haul ever and should cross $500 million in the States and $1 billion globally by Sunday night, taking another record from Jurassic World in the process.
