To mark the film’s arrival on Disney+ this week, Eternals star Gemma Chan has taken to social media to share some behind-the-scenes images from Marvel’s cosmic superhero adventure, which include a shot of her alongside co-star Richard Madden (Ikaris) as well as a couple of photos featuring Harry Styles in full costume for his post-credits cameo as Eros, a.k.a. Starfox.

Eternals sets up several major story threads for the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving forward and so it will come as little surprise that Chan has also confirmed to W Magazine that she will be back again as Sersi, the actress joking that “Marvel owns us for life”. However, despite announcing her character’s return, there’s been no confirmation yet from Marvel or Disney with regards to Eternals 2, and so it’s unclear at this point as to how and where Sersi and her fellow Eternals’ storylines will continue.
Given the increasing overlapping and crossover between Marvel’s multitude of film and TV projects, a straight-up sequel certainly isn’t the only way to take the whole Celestials storyline forward and producer Nate Moore suggested in the run up to the film’s release that Eternals 2 is “not something that is a must-have” – a feeling that may well have strengthened within Marvel Studios following the negative critical reception and modest box office returns.
Eternals 2 aside, perhaps Chan’s Sersi could even squeeze in a little vampire hunting alongside her boyfriend Dane Whitman (Kit Harington) before Arishem arrives to deliver his judgement?
“Marvel Studios’ Eternals features an exciting new team of Super Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s most ancient enemy, The Deviants.”
Eternals is directed by Chloe Zhao (The Rider) and features a cast that includes Angelina Jolie (Maleficent) as Thena, Richard Madden (Bodyguard) as Ikaris, Don Lee (Train to Busan) as Gilgamesh, Salma Hayek (The Hitman’s Bodyguard) as Ajak, Lauren Ridloff (The Walking Dead) as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry (Child’s Play) as Phastos, Lia McHugh (American Woman) as Sprite, Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick) as Kingo, Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) as Dane Whitman, Gemma Chan (Captain Marvel) as Sersi and Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk) as Druig.
