Adam Wingard’s Godzilla vs. Kong seemingly brought the curtain down on a four-film MonsterVerse that has grossed almost $2 billion worldwide, but with box-office behemoth numbers like that there was no way these Titans were going to lay dormant for long, they’re just going to have to squeeze onto a smaller screen to do it. This is because Apple TV+ has announced that it has given a full series order to a new original live-action TV show set within the world of the Legendary franchise.
With the kind of world-building building and destruction featured in Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Godzilla vs. Kong, there is plenty left to explore among the rubble when it comes to these iconic monsters, and so the MonsterVerse will expand into a TV series, the official synopsis for which reads:
“Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real, the series explores one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch.”
The series will be produced by Legendary Television and executive produced by co-creator Chris Black (Outcast), who will also serve as the showrunner. Also executive producing are Hawkeye‘s Matt Fraction, alongside Safehouse Pictures’ Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell, and Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita from the home of Godzilla, Toho Co. Ltd.
