Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Melissa Fumero has joined Randall Park (WandaVision) in Netflix’s upcoming comedy series Blockbuster, a workplace comedy about the last Blockbuster Video store still remaining open in the world of streaming and on-demand rentals.
Blockbuster is “a 10-episode ensemble comedy that takes place in the last Blockbuster Video store in America. It explores what it takes – and, more specifically, who it takes – for a small business to succeed against all odds.”
Fumero will star as Eliza, “a dedicated mother whose marriage to her high school sweetheart is on the rocks. She left Harvard after one semester to start a family and now works at Blockbuster alongside Timmy (Park) as his trusty Number 2 — and maybe more.”
Blockbuster is created by Superstore and Brooklyn Nine-Nine writer Vanessa Ramos with David Caspe and Jackie Clarke also serving as writers and executive producers. Payman Benz, who directed episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, will direct and co-executive produce the pilot and three other episodes. The series will be executive produced by John Davis and John Fox for Davis Entertainment.
