Having been delayed for multiple reasons, Kenneth Branagh’s Agatha Christie sequel Death on the Nile finally set sail to middling reviews (read our take here) and so-so box-office ($103M worldwide), but it appears it’s enough for 20th Century Studios money-men to confirm further mysteries for Hercule Poirot to solve on the big-screen.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell confirmed that they’re already working on a third case for Kenneth Branagh to twizzle his moustache over. Asbell said “we have the Poirot franchise, we have other Christie stories. I love these films, I love Ken. We have a third script written, by Michael Green, that is a pretty daring shift in genre and in tone. It’s post-war Venice and an adaptation of one of the lesser-known novels. So I think you’ll see the mustache again.”
He also confirmed that Branagh would return to direct the third film, adding “Yes. Ken is Poirot, but Ken is also the series.”
