One thing The CW will do is keep giving fans its outlandish signature series, and we’ve learned a whole gang of fan-favourite shows have been renewed.
On Tuesday, the network announced that All American, The Flash, Superman & Lois, Riverdale, Walker, Kung Fu, and Nancy Drew will return for the 2022-23 TV season. This announcement is the first springtime series renewals in quite some time as The CW usually aims for February to do pickups like in 2019, 2020, and 2021. The reports suggest the delay comes from The CW’s corporate parents, Paramount and WarnerMedia, looking into a sale.
While avoiding all the sale gossip, the CW Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz did speak about the upcoming renewals, stating:
“As we prepare for the 2022-23 season, these scripted series, along with the alternative series we renewed earlier, will serve as the start of a solid foundation utilizing some of our most-watched series for us to build on for next year and beyond. These dramas are also important to our overall digital strategy, as they are some of our most-streamed and socially-engaged programming, and we look forward to adding more new and returning series to help strengthen and expand our multiplatform footprint.”
Riverdale is currently airing its sixth season, which shows the series jumping the shark with alternative universes and giving Archie superpowers. Only time will tell what madness the seventh season has in store for viewers.
Superman & Lois looks to enter its third season with similar momentum as Season 2 since the Man of Steel isn’t featured in the DCEU films. The Flash will face competition next year with the big-screen adaption on its way but will stay strong with the core audience that’s carried it to now nine seasons – an Arrowverse record.
Walker, All American, Kung Fu, and Nancy Drew have more than earned their place on the roster with loyal fanbases and steady ratings for The CW. They’ll look to further their impact on the network and hope to reach nine seasons like The Flash.
The current CW series awaiting renewal news include 4400, All American: Homecoming, Batwoman, Charmed, Dynasty, In The Dark, Legacies, Legends of Tomorrow, Naomi, Stargirl, and Tom Swift.
