Some seventeen years on from his last foray into the galaxy far, far away, Hayden Christensen makes his Star Wars return next month as he reunites with Prequel Trilogy co-star Ewan McGregor for Lucasfilm’s Disney+ series Star Wars: Obi Wan Kenobi.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Christensen spoke about his preparation for his return, revealing that he not only revisited the films but also immersed himself in Anakin/Vader’s wider story through the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels.

“I went back and rewatched all the films, and I also got into the animated shows, The Clone Wars and Rebels,” said Christensen. “It was interesting. They did a lot with these characters in those shows. And they did further explore the relationship. There was interesting stuff there to learn about. It was great fun getting to go back and re-immerse yourself in this world that just continues to grow and become more and more vast.”
Christensen’s animated research will certainly come in handy, given that he’s also set to return as Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Ahsoka., which sees Rosario Dawson in the title role as the Clone Wars character and is expected to pick up on story threads from Rebels.
“During the reign of the Galactic Empire, former Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi embarks on a crucial mission. Kenobi must confront allies turned enemies and face the wrath of the Empire.”
Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi is being directed by Deborah Chow (The Mandalorian), with McGregor joined in the cast by Hayden Christensen (Darth Vader), Joel Edgerton (Owen Lars) and Bonnie Piesse (Beru Lars), as well as Star Wars newcomers Moses Ingram, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, Maya Erskine, Benny Safdie and Grant Feely.
Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi will premiere on Disney+ on May 27th.
