The Walking Dead duo who fans never wanted to see split have officially ended as the planned spin-off which would have focused on Melissa McBride’s Carol and Norman Reedus’ Daryl has lost the Carol half.
TVLine first reported the news, and Variety confirmed with their sources today that Melissa McBride has exited the project. Sources close to the situation have labelled the exit as “creative differences.” The planned series will still live on as a Daryl-focused piece, allowing us enjoy more of the fan-favorite biker bad-ass.
McBride has played Carol Peletier for over ten years, giving one of the show’s most significant transformations. Carol is a beloved character, and along with Reedus’ Daryl, is considered by many to be the one of the best parts of Walking Dead, so the exit will likely shock viewers.
Other spinoff projects currently in the works from AMC include the anthology show Tales of the Walking Dead and Isle of the Dead, a New York-set series featuring Lauren Cohan’s Maggie and Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan, as well as the Rick Grimes movies which remain in development almost four years on from being announced.
