The John Wick franchise is about to grow a little larger as Lionsgate announced at CinemaCon that the spin-off Ballerina with Ana de Armas (No Time to Die) in the lead role will begin production this summer.
Ballerina focuses on “a young female assassin (Armas) who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family.” The character will come from the Ballet school seen in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum which is run by Angelica Huston’s Director who trains the young women to be assassins and makes them endure massive amounts of pain in their training.
Ballerina will be directed by Len Wiseman from a script written by Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead).
This is not the first spin-off of the John Wick films as Lionsgate and Starz hase developed the upcoming limited series The Continental, a prequel following a young Winston as he gains control of The Continental hotel that is a centrepiece of the films. John Wick: Chapter 4 is also set for a release date of March 24, 2023.
