Back in March Harley Quinn co-showrunner Patrick Schumacker revealed that he was developing a spinoff to the DC Comics adult animated series centred on the character of Kite Man, and now THR has reported that the project has received a ten-episode straight-to-series order from HBO Max.
Titled Noonan’s and described previously as “Cheers for supervillains”, the series “revolves around lovable loser Kite Man and his new squeeze Golden Glider as they moonlight as criminals to support their foolish purchase of Noonan’s, Gotham’s seediest dive bar, where everybody knows your name, but not necessarily your secret identity!”
“We love the wild and fun world of Harley Quinn so much we just had to make a spinoff and who better to center it around than the outcast Kite Man,” said Suzanna Makkos of HBO Max. [Harley Quinnshowrunners Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker], and [showrunner Dean Lorey] have created the perfect local hangout for Gotham City’s not-so-finest at Noonan’s, where bar patrons can blow off steam after a long day of mayhem.”
Matt Oberg will lead the voice cast as Kite Man, reprising his role from Harley Quinn, and the show will presumably feature much of the same cast, although there’s no official word on any other voice talent at present. However, Harley Quinn voice actress Kaley Cuoco is executive producing the spinoff alongside Halpern, Schumacker, Lorey, and Sam Register.
The first two seasons of Harley Quinn are available to stream now on HBO Max, with season three set to premiere in the summer.
