Deadline has revealed that Netflix’s hit series Bridgerton will see one of its cast members replaced in the third season as Hannah Dodd (Anatomy of a Scandal) will take over the role of Francesca Bridgerton as a series regular.
Francesca was the little-seen Bridgerton sibling, being away most of the first season and only having a few appearances at the start of the second. The recasting is due to Ruby Stokes’ departure from the series. Stokes only had a recurring guest role in Bridgerton and during production on the second season she was cast as a lead in Netflix’s adaptation of the Lockwood & Co. series.
Dodd will be seen as Francesca in the third season and potentially beyond as each season will focus on another sibling in the Bridgerton family. Francesca’s story is in the sixth book of the Bridgerton novels, When He Was Wicked.
Francesca Bridgerton is described as “a bit of a mystery within her chatty, extroverted family. Despite her reserved nature, she goes along to get along when it comes to society affairs, fortified with a dry wit and pragmatism that confound the fickle ton yet seem to draw attention when she least desires it.”
Duty, desire and scandal collide when Viscount Anthony Bridgerton decides to marry, only to meet his match in his intended bride’s headstrong big sister.
Bridgerton season 2 features a cast that includes Jonathan Bailey, Simone Ashley, Charithra Chandran, Phoebe Dynevor, Ruth Gemmell, Claudia Jessie, Luke Thompson, Adjoa Andoh, Shelley Conn, Lorraine Ashbourne, Harriet Cains, Bessie Carter, Florence Hunt, Martins Imhangbe, Calam Lynch, Luke Newton, Will Tilston, Polly Walker, and Rupert Young.
