It appears that Russell Crowe might get to welcome you to a world of Gods and Monsters once again with the news he is set to star in The Pope’s Exorcist for Overlord‘s Julius Avery.
The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the Thor: Love and Thunder actor is set to star in the Screen Gems supernatural thriller that tells the story of a real-life priest, Father Gabriele Amorth, who acted as chief exorcist of the Vatican, performing more than 100,000 exorcisms in his lifetime until he passed away at the age of 91. The man of God wrote two memoirs titled An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories in which he detailed his experiences battling Satan and demons.
Avery has previous when it comes to monster movies having directed 2018’s well-received zombie gore-fest Overlord, whereas The Pope’s Exorcist will see Crowe return to the world of the occult following his ill-fated stint in Universal’s Dark Universe non-starter The Mummy.
The Pope’s Exorcist adds to Crowe’s busy schedule, which finds him up next in Marvel Studio’s Thor: Love and Thunder, followed by Sony’s Kraven the Hunter, Peter Farrelly’s The Greatest Beer Run Ever, and period boxing drama Prizefighter.
