It faced stiff competition from Golden Globe winner and Oscar contender The Revenant as well as the box office giant Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but Quentin Tarantino’s latest film The Hateful Eight has fallen way below expectations.
Now in its second week of nationwide release, The Hateful Eight has dropped a whopping 62% from its opening, taking just $6 million over the weekend. Worse still, this comes in a week where the film expanded to an additional 500 screens. This puts it behind The Force Awakens and The Revenant, but also behind Daddy’s Home ($15 million) and Sisters ($7.1 million) in their third and fourth weeks respectively, and newcomer The Forest ($13 million).
The Hateful Eight now stands at $41 million domestically, and will likely take $50 million when all is said and done.
