Two of 2022’s kings of summer, Miles Top Gun Teller and Scott The Black Phone Derrickson, are joining forces for Skydance’s upcoming genre-bending love story The Gorge.
According to Deadline Whiplash star Teller is in final negotiations to headline The Gorge, having taken his time selecting his first project following Top Gun: Maverick‘s $1.4 billion (and counting) box-office success. He’ll be in good company with the film’s director Derrickson, who guided The Black Phone to critical praise and $155 million worldwide, all off a reported budget of $18 million.
The Gorge is based on a spec script from Zach Dean, who wrote the really-rather-good The Tomorrow War. The film has been an internal project at Skydance for some time now after the studio won a bidding war for the script in the fall of 2020. The logline and any details on the film are being kept under wraps, but is described as “a high-action, genre-bending love story.”
