Guillermo del Toro: “Pacific Rim 2 isn’t canceled”

January 12, 2016 by Robert Kojder

Positive Pacific Rim 2 news has been proven hard to come by. After Guillermo del Toro announced that the script was done and ready to go (and there were rumours of a crossover with Godzilla and King Kong), it was revealed that Pacific Rim 2 was “delayed indefinitely”. Even though del Toro remained positive, he has seemingly moved on to direct a remake of the 1966 sci-fi classic Fantastic Voyage. Universal Pictures had also replaced the film’s initial release date with Pitch Perfect 3.

Guillermo del Toro has taken to Twitter however, stressing that fans of the franchise not believe everything they read and that the film is not canceled.

Pac Rim 2 cancelled? Don't believe everything you read. It's still going and I'll remain w it in one way or another!

— Guillermo del Toro (@RealGDT) January 11, 2016

Fantastic Voyage would reunite del Toro with Blade II screenwriter David S. Goyer, who is writing the script for the remake with Justin Rhodes (Grassroots) and “revolves around a team of scientists who are shrunk to atomic size and sent in a miniature submarine inside the body of a scientist to save his life.”
