First look at Florence Pugh’s Netflix period thriller The Wonder

September 17, 2022 by Amie Cranswick

Netflix has released a poster and images for The Wonder, director Sebastián Lelio’s (A Fantastic Woman, Gloria Bell) upcoming adaptation of Emma Donoghue’s acclaimed historical thriller novel which sees Florence Pugh (Don’t Worry Darling) leading a cast that also includes Kila Lord Cassidy, Niamh Algar, and Elaine Cassidy.

The Irish Midlands, 1862 – a young girl stops eating but remains miraculously alive and well. English nurse Lib Wright is brought to a tiny village to observe eleven-year old Anna O’Donnell. Tourists and pilgrims mass to witness the girl who is said to have survived without food for months. Is the village harbouring a saint ‘surviving on manna from heaven’ or are there more ominous motives at work?

The Wonder arrives on Netflix on November 16th.
