Sci-fi detective adventure Between Horizons launching in 2023

October 29, 2022 by Andrew Newton

Assemble Entertainment and developer DigiTales Interactive have today unveiled their upcoming 2.5D pixel art sci-fi adventure Between Horizons.  This new branching sci-fi detective story will release later next year on PC and consoles and will set players the task of uncovering the mysteries of the space ship Zephyr.  Watch the new trailer below…

In this modern 2.5D pixel art adventure, players take the role of Stella, a young woman born on the Zephyr, humanity’s first-generation starship on a mission to a distant star.  Stella has recently inherited the post as Chief of Security from her father and her first task in this particularly tricky job is to uncover the conspiracy that threatens to disrupt the Zephyr’s social order and prevent it from happening…. or align with them.

The Zephyr is a large ship with rooms and mysteries galore and players will be able to explore its many unique areas, speak to the ship’s inhabitants and discover clues that will help link the branching storylines.  As the situation on board begins to spiral out of control players will need to make increasingly difficult decisions that may make them reevaluate their moral compass.

Between Horizons features:

  • A merging of investigative-style gameplay with a branching sci-fi story in a Metroidvania-like environment.
  • A flexible evidence system that allows players to assign clues to cases, confront inhabitants about them and submit cases with the evidence connected.
  • Everything discovered on the ship is connected in some way, use investigative skills to figure out how they are linked.
  • Work through thought-provoking problems and weigh intergenerational responsibility against personal freedoms.
  • A timeless pixel art style mixed with 3D environments and visual effects.
  • Be prepared for failure, there are no second chances and submitting the wrong solution will cause consequences that Stella will have to live with.  The way story branches develop and end are based on player decisions and a new auto-save feature ensures there is no going back to change an outcome.

Between Horizons will release in 2023 on PC and consoles.
