The Alien franchise has featured some iconic female characters, and now Mare of Easttown‘s Cailee Spaeny is in talks to join the illustrious likes of Sigourney Weaver, Noomi Rapace, and Katherine Waterston by heading to space for Fede Álvarez’s Alien sequel.
The Hollywood Reporter reveal that Spaeny, who is currently shooting Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla Presley biopic Priscilla, is in talks to lead the seventh Alien movie, which will be written and directed by Don’t Breathe and Evil Dead‘s Fede Álvarez.
Little is known about the plot of the film, but it is said to be completely different from other entries and will serve as a stand-alone project with no ties to other films in the series..
Alvarez apparently pitched an idea to Ridley Scott years ago, with the franchise creator deciding to stick around and produce this sequel via his Scott Free banner. Scott directed the original 1979 classic, as-well-as much maligned prequel one-two of Prometheus in 2013 and Alien: Covenant in 2017.
This isn’t the only Alien project being awoken from cryo-sleep though, because there’s also a TV series in development from Noah Hawley and Ridley Scott, heading to FX some time in 2023.
