Kevin Spacey joins Nicholas Hoult in J.D. Salinger biopic Rebel in the Rye

January 22, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Kevin Spacey has joined the cast of the upcoming J.D. Salinger biopic Rebel in the Rye, which will star Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: Days of Future Past) as the famed American writer and author of The Catcher in the Rye.

According to Deadline, Spacey “will play Whit Burnett, a professor at Columbia and editor of Story magazine. He became a mentor and was the first to challenge the young Salinger, inspiring him to grow as a storyteller.”

Rebel in the Rye is being directed by Empire executive producer Danny Strong, and “will explore Salinger’s rebellious youth, his experiences on the bloody front lines of World War II, enduring great love and terrible loss, a life of rejection to the pages of the New Yorker and his writer’s block — which led to a spiritual awakening.”
