David Mackenzie is prepping his follow-up to the double hits of Hell or High Water and Outlaw King with an upcoming new thriller.
Deadline reports Mackenzie will helm Relay, set to star Oscar-winner Riz Ahmed and Lily James. Penning the script for the film are Justin Piasecki and Mackenzie.
In the film, Ahmed will “play Tom, a world-class fixer specializing in brokering lucrative payoffs between corrupt corporations and the individuals who threaten their ruin. He keeps his identity a secret through meticulous planning and always follows an exacting set of rules. But when a message arrives one day from potential client Sarah (James), needing Tom’s protection just to stay alive, the rules quickly start to change.”
James is fresh off her role in Hulu’s Pam & Tommy and recently wrapped on crime comedy Providence and wrestling drama The Iron Claw. Ahmed won an Oscar last year for the short film The Long Goodbye and was Oscar-nominated for The Sound of Metal; he’s currently working on the animated movie Nimona and the sci-fi romance Fingernails.
Filming on Relay is due to start in New York and New Jersey in April.
