Filming on Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu has already begun, and we’ve just learned about one of the biggest names joining the cast.
Deadline reports that Aaron Taylor-Johnson will join the vampire remake, rounding out an already stellar cast that includes Lily-Rose Depp, Bill Skarsgard, Nicholas Hoult, Willem Dafoe, and Emma Corrin. Simon McBurney and Ralph Ineson have recently filled out the supporting cast.
This marks Taylor-Johnson’s first real venture into the horror genre. The actor has appeared in thrillers and led an action-filled Godzilla film, but Eggers’ Nosferatu sees the actor really tap into his dark side. Taylor-Johnson recently appeared in Bullet Train, as well as The King’s Man and Tenet. He’ll next appear in 2023’s Kraven The Hunter.
Deadline notes the new film will follow “a haunted young woman (Depp) in 19th century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire (Skarsgard) who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him.” Focus will distribute Nosferatu domestically, and Universal Pictures International will handle it internationally.
Filmmaker Robert Eggers will follow up his 2022 film The Northman with this remake of the classic 1922 silent film. Eggers is best known for his period-piece horror films The Witch and The Lighthouse. Nosferatu is reportedly a passion project for the horror filmmaker and production is currently underway in Prague.
