Zack Snyder is known for quite a few things in his work. Besides starting conversations that spark endless fan battles, Snyder also loves multiple cuts of his films, and his upcoming Rebel Moon will not be any different.
Andy Koyama, a re-recording mixer on John Wick Chapter 4, opened up about the post-production process of both parts of Snyder’s Rebel Moon. While hinting at what is to come in terms of style, we also got a hint that there’s an R-rated cut of Rebel Moon.
“It’s very exciting. It’s a big, huge space – they probably don’t want me to say this – ‘Star Wars’-y, ‘rebels against the evil empire’ thing over all sorts of different worlds,” says Koyama.
He adds, “It’s really fun. There’s going to be two films. I think we’re mixing that from June to February. And there’s also going to be extended R-rated versions of each of the two films, so we’re going to be mixing four different features.”
After an eight-month shoot, production on both parts of Rebel Moon wrapped back in December. This marks the first confirmation of any extended cuts or the MPAA rating of the films.
Rebel Moon follows a colony on the edge of the galaxy that is threatened by the armies of the tyrannical regent Belisarius (Ed Skrein). In a desperate attempt, the civilians send out a young woman (Sofia Boutella) to seek warriors from other planets to fight the tyrannical armies.
The cast includes Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Anthony Hopkins, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Stuart Martin, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Michiel Huisman, Alfonso Herrera, Ed Skrein, Cleopatra Coleman, Fra Fee, Rhian Rees, Jena Malone, E. Duffy, Charlotte Maggi, Sky Yang, and Staz Nair.
Rebel Moon Part 1 hits Netflix on December 22nd, 2023.
