“It isn’t about winning, Sebastian.” Cruel Intentions is back, and all the scandalous drama will be heading to Amazon.
TV Line initially broke the story, with Variety confirming that a new Cruel Intentions adaptation is coming. Production in Toronto will reportedly begin this June, taking the series in a riveting new political direction.
As per TV Line, the series is “set in Washington, D.C, and follows two ruthless step-siblings who will do anything to stay at the top of the Greek Life hierarchy at their elite college. When a brutal hazing incident threatens the entire Panhellenic system, they’ll do whatever is necessary to preserve their power and reputations… including seducing the daughter of the U.S. vice president.”
The series is a long time coming, not just with Amazon. IMDB TV was initially teaming up with Amazon Studios to produce alongside Sony Pictures Television in 2021, but plans fell through. There was also an infamous 2016 pilot starring Sarah Michelle Gellar that never made it to air but eventually leaked online.
In the early 00s, Fox tried to make a prequel show, but it never materialized as a series. Production later retooled three episodes of that show to become the direct-to-video film Cruel Intentions 2. There was another direct-to-video sequel titled Cruel Intentions 3 in 2004.
Amazon has yet to confirm the news of this new series.
