While the future of Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise remains uncertain, the IT movie prequel is still rounding out it is cast.
Welcome to Derry (working title) has cast four actors. The series will star Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, and James Remar. Details on the characters have yet to be revealed, though we can expect complicated stories for these Derry residents.
Taylour Paige is a newcomer, best known for her work in 2021’s Zola and the Oscar-nominated Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Jovan Adepo has previously starred in HBO’s Watchmen but will return to the Stephen King universe after starring in then-CBS All Access’ The Stand. Chris Chalk was mostly seen in Perry Mason, and obviously, the work of James Remar is prolific. Remar has starred in The Warriors, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, Sex and the City, and Dexter; he adds a bit of an impactful name to the budding cast list.
As mentioned, this IT prequel series has not officially cast its Pennywise The Clown, and IT movie actor Bill Skarsgard has confirmed he is yet to be cast in the project. The series is reportedly set in the early 1960s, so we could see Pennywise take a different form than what we saw in the ’80s set films.
Andy Muschietti will direct multiple episodes of Welcome To Derry, including the first episode, while Jason Fuchs will write the first episode. Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane will serve as co-showrunners.
Welcome to Derry is not expected to hit HBO Max until 2024.
