There’s been plenty of actors to make a move from DC Studios to Marvel Studios and vice versa, but we’ve never seen a filmmaker or a prominent executive make this type of move.
Does that open the door to a potential face-off between the two superhero brands? That could happen now more than ever under James Gunn.
Gunn is in the early days of building his vision for DC Studios, which includes a soft reboot of the films and a more focused plan between TV and film. But the filmmaker is also promoting his last MCU film, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3, which opens in May. This is quite an interesting transitional moment for the DC co-chair and filmmaker, but this could also lead to a crossover cinematic event that no one expects.
In their latest issue, Empire got Gunn to open up about the possibility of a Marvel Universe vs. the DC Universe movie. While it seems far-fetched, Gunn thinks it could happen eventually.
“I’m certain that’s more likely now that I’m in charge [at DC],” Gunn told the magazine, “Who knows?” However, “That’s many years away, though. I think we have to establish what we’re doing [at DC] first. I would be lying to say that we haven’t discussed it. But all discussions have been very, very light and fun.”
As Gunn noted, we are a while away from anything massive event like this. Marvel Studios is hitting a rough patch, while DC Studios is still trying to find its footing in this new era.
After finishing his commitment to Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3, Gunn is still steam ahead on his upcoming Superman film titled Superman: Legacy. He’ll also oversee the next crop of DC films, which includes Batman: The Brave and the Bold, as well as a new Swamp Thing film.
