Elizabeth Olsen and Alicia Vikander have signed up to star in dystopian sci-fi The Assessment.
According to Screen Daily the two will play a couple living in a future destroyed by climate change, where part of society has created a parallel world for itself. Life is controlled and optimised, and the desire to have children is also not left to chance. Their lives are therefore put under close scrutiny by a female assessor over the course of seven days. Anna Kendrick is also rumoured to be in contention for a role.
The Assessment would be the debut feature from French filmmaker Fleur Fortuné, who has made her name directing music videos and short films. She will direct from a script co-written by Nell Garfath-Cox, Dave Thomas and John Donnelly.
It would be Olsen’s first big-screen role since seemingly bidding farewell to Scarlett Witch with 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. She recently appeared in HBO’s suburban murder series Love & Death.
Alicia Vikander also had a stint on HBO, starring in Olivier Assayas’ small-screen remake of his 1996 French silent film Irma Vep, while she’s also receiving plenty of awards buzz for her performance in Henry VIII historical-thriller Firebrand.
