Simon Pegg is at a point in his career where he’s willing to try new things, and that means going back to past works and revisiting them are not on his docket.
Speaking to The Guardian, Pegg looks at his career evolution and describes how he no longer views himself as he did during Shaun of the Dead. “I’m not that geeky guy anymore, ” he states, noting that he wants to move forward with this new attitude and sees no point in returning to past works like Shaun of the Dead, which is often asked for by fans.
“If I ever do an Instagram Live or whatever, people are always like, ‘I need Shaun of the Dead 2 in my life,'” he revealed. “And I’m like, ‘No, you don’t fucking need Shaun of the Dead 2! The last thing you need is Shaun of the Dead 2! It’s done. Move on!'”
He adds, “Whatever Edgar and I do next, we’re not going to rely on what we’ve done before; I like the idea of pissing people off. There’s something fun about torching everything. Everything that people think we are, that’s what we won’t be. We should just do something that no one’s expecting.” Pegg jokes, “But no one wants!”
For Pegg, it’s obvious he’d rather work on another original project with his Shaun of the Dead collaborators, saying in an IG post earlier this year, “Hard to believe it’s nine years since we were shooting The World’s End. Hey [Nick Frost] and [Edgar Wright], it’s about time we assembled again, isn’t it?”
Pegg will be seen next in the upcoming new summer blockbuster Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Part One. The film opens worldwide on July 12th.
