A classic ghost story haunts us again as the 13 Ghosts are back…
Dread Central broke the story, giving fans the first look into what’s to come for the potential series. Per the outlet, Patrick Mediate and Aaron McLane will develop and pitch their 13 Ghosts project to Sony Pictures Television in partnership with Dark Castle Entertainment. Ashley Robinson (co-producer, Fear the Walking Dead) is also attached.
As part of their pitch, the creative team dives more into how they want to tackle the iconic ghosts: “Every culture in the world has its ghost stories, and this re-imagining of 13 Ghosts presents an international sampling of these supernatural tales. The ghost stories within each episode will have their own stylistic look and feel that will be explored and influenced by each individual director. This makes our ghost vignettes stand out stylistically as they set the theme for each episode.”
If all goes well, 13 Ghosts will be an anthology-style series inspired by all types of horror. They’ll look at the 2002 cult classic, but there’s more. In a teaser image below, you’ll see that the filmmakers are even diving into Japanese inspirations, referencing Kaneto Shindō’s Onibaba.
One of the wilder ideas coming from Meditate and McLane is the AR component they have planned. If things go according to plan, their 13 Ghosts will allow audiences to download an app and see additional ghosts on-screen and in their homes as the series airs.
