The future of Elizabeth Olsen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t clear, and with her recent comments, it seems the actress is enjoying her time away from Wanda Maximoff and the MCU.
In a pre-strike interview with Times of London, the actress spoke on branching out to new roles, including Candy Montgomery in Max’s Love and Death. While it’s obvious Olsen enjoyed her time with Marvel, the future for her seems a bit rocky after being seemingly killed off in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
In the newly published interview, Olsen sets the record straight about her MCU future. She tells the outlet, “I’m trying to figure out. Because, specifically in the last four years, my output has been Marvel. I don’t want…It’s not that I don’t want to be associated as just this character. But I really feel like I need to be building other parts back up for balance.”
She continues, “I so much want to do films right now. And I hope some of them come together in the way I feel like they can. But yeah, that’s something that I need. I just need other characters in my life. There’s no longevity in one character.”
Olsen hasn’t put the days of the Scarlet Witch behind her, though, and rumors have long swirled that we’d see a small cameo from the character in Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, the new title for previously named Agatha: Coven of Chaos, which is due out late 2024.
Agatha: Darkhold Diaries stars Kathryn Hahn returning as the titular Agatha Harkness, Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke, Patti LuPone, and Sasheer Zamata. The supporting cast includes David Payton, David Lengel, Asif Ali, Amos Glick, Brian Brightman, Kate Forbes, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Okwui Okpokwasili, and Maria Dizzia.
Agatha: Darkhold Diaries is expected to premiere on Disney+ in the fall of next year. The series is being showrun by Jac Schaeffer, serving as head writer and executive producer.
