Warner Bros. has released a featurette for Blitz Bazawule’s new take on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize winning The Color Purple, which promises to put the story “back out into the world” in order to “connect with the younger generation”.
The screenplay is by acclaimed playwright Marcus Gardley (Maid), which combines Walker’s novel with the musical stage play by Marsha Norman, with music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray, to tell the story of the struggles of an African-American woman living in the South during the early 1900s.
