Expectations were pretty low for the fourth outing of Sylvester Stallone’s Expendables franchise, but Millennium Media’s Expend4bles tanked hard over what was the lowest grossing weekend at the North American box-office in 2023.
The original Expendables opened in 2010 to a franchise high $34 million at the U.S. box-office, a tally that the fourth entry will be lucky to make over its entire domestic run, having earned just $8.3 million in receipts over the weekend.
We called the film “mother****** C-R-A-P” in our ★ ★ review (which you can read here), but we’re yet to discover if the wider world agrees, because the $100 million budgeted actioner is yet to reveal its overseas grosses, although Deadline report that it has earned $20.8 million in China.
What is certain is that The Nun II held onto the top spot with $8.4 million, which lifts The Conjuring Universe sequel to $69 million domestic, $135 million overseas, and a running global cume of $204 million.

Elsewhere A Haunting in Venice dipped -56% for a sophomore frame of $6.3 million and $25.3 million domestic total. 20th Century Studios will be hoping that the Kenneth Branagh threequel will perform like its predecessors and recoup most of its cash internationally, where the film has taken $46 million so far.
Comscore is reporting the overall box office weekend adds up to $51.7 million, which is the lowest to date for 2023.
