Can you think of a more ridiculous combo than Dan Harmon and Zack Snyder?
Both filmmakers are known for bold visions, toxic fans, and an outgoing nature, which is probably why Snyder once looked to Harmon about making a Rick and Morty feature film. In an interview with THR, we saw Dan Harmon open up about working on a Rick and Morty film, what his approach would be, and his once-soured meeting with Warner executives.
Harmon states, “My philosophy would be to just take a Rick and Morty adventure, and spend a bunch of extra money on it and make it 90 minutes long. Not to try to earn its feature status by virtue of canonical dramatic tone shifts or anything like that, but rather to just make it a super badass episode of Rick and Morty…we can let our animators go nuts, and the animation can be fancier, and there can be crazy sequences and stuff.”
After that meeting fizzled, the creator claims Snyder approached him, offering help to get the project off the ground. He states, “[It wasn’t Snyder] saying, ‘I get to [direct] it,’ or anything like that. He was totally a super fan and was just like, ‘Is there any way I can help get that movie started by using my Snyder-ness?'”
Harmon then jokes about how the process of a Snyder-backed Rick and Morty film would go: “I want to start with a Snyder Cut of that movie, and then I want to do the Director’s Cut of a Snyder Cut release, so we can just have a six-hour Rick and Morty movie and three hours of it is in black and white.”
We already know Zack Snyder is no stranger to the franchise, stating in a previous that as a Fortnite player, he picks the infamous Mister Meeseeks as his main. It helped show the love Snyder has for the wacky world created by Harmon.
The seventh season of Rick and Morty is set to premiere on October 15th on Adult Swim.
