Atomic Monster bringing live-action Gargoyles to life for Disney+

Following decades set in stone, and countless reboot rumours, the Walt Disney Television series Gargoyles could finally be about to take flight once again with the news that Atomic Monster are developing a live-action series for Disney+.

According to THR, Gary Dauberman, who already has a track record of bringing inanimate objects to life with the Annabelle series of films, and James Wan’s Atomic Monster, have teamed up to remake the popular cartoon.

Dauberman will write, executive produce and showrun Gargoyles with Atomic Monster. A partnership which has already made almost $800 million at the worldwide box-office thanks to their The Conjuring Universe ventures.

Since Gargoyles aired the final episode of its three-season run 1997, there has been talk of revivals and movies, but Greg Weisman’s creations have only ever come back to life in comic book form. 

Praised for its complex story arcs and drama, the series told the story of a group of gargoyles, led by their leader Goliath, who are set in stone in the year 994 A.D., only to awaken atop a skyscraper in modern day Manhattan, where they must adapt to this new world as they vow to protect the citizens of New York.

Next up for Dauberman and Atomic Monster is the will-it-ever-see-the-light-of-day Salem’s Lot, which he wrote and directed for Warner Bros., but has been without a release date since being bumped from the schedule earlier this year.
