Shawn Levy has quite the slate ahead of him, and on his journeys, he’ll be heading to a galaxy far, far away.
The director behind the upcoming Deadpool 3 and the final season of Stranger Things will soon direct his very own Star Wars film, which you can see is no easy task in the Disney era.
During a recent sitdown with Variety, the filmmaker dove into how he plans on handling the daunting task, telling the outlet, “When Kathy Kennedy brought me on board to make a Star Wars movie, her central mandate to me was ‘I want a Shawn Levy movie. I want a story and a tone that reflects you and your taste and what you bring to your movies – with a Star Wars story.'”
He says the type of freedom has fuelled him, adding. “So I have felt extremely empowered. We are in early days, unfortunately, because the development process was abruptly paused [due to the WGA strike], but I feel very empowered to trust my instincts in the development of this story and movie.”
As previously stated, Levy is working on directing Deadpool 3 (once the SAG-AFTRA strike ends), and he seemingly speaks highly about his time already working under the Disney umbrella. Telling Variety, “My Deadpool movie is turning out to be exactly what Ryan [Reynolds] and I had hoped when we started off. So I’m going into the development of my Star Wars movie with a similar optimism and faith that my instincts will be allowed to lead the way.”
Levy is currently promoting his new Netflix series, All The Light We Cannot See. As we previously reported, Deadpool 3 may lose its release date, but there’s been no official move yet. There’s also no release date set for Levy’s Star Wars film.
