Sylvester Stallone is set to return in a sequel to Amazon MGM Studios’ streaming smash Samaritan.
Directed by The Pope’s Exorcist‘s Julius Avery, Samaritan became the number one film on the Prime Video streaming service for three consecutive weeks when it was released back in 2022, so it comes as little surprise that they are developing a sequel.
According to THR, Bragi F. Schut (The Last Voyage of the Demeter) has been hired to write a follow-up script to his original film, with Stallone not only returning as Samaritan‘s star, but as producer alongside his Balboa Productions partner Braden Aftergood. There is no word yet as to whether Avery will return to direct.
Samaritan, which we called “entertaining superhero escapism that is a far cry from the neutered, humor driven drivel seen these days” in our ★★★ review, told the story of a young boy who learns that a superhero who was thought to have gone missing after an epic battle twenty years ago may in fact still be around.
