2024 is already shaping up to be a good year for horror, with master of the genre Robert Eggers bringing back a classic vampire tale. During a recent preview in Empire Magazine, the filmmaker unleashed his first look at Nosferatu, the upcoming Focus Features remake of the classic 1922 version.
In the interview, Eggers teases the pure horror that will be on display, stating: “It’s a scary film. It’s a horror movie. It’s a Gothic horror movie. And I do think that there hasn’t been an old-school Gothic movie that’s actually scary in a while. And I think that the majority of audiences will find this one to be the case,” teases the director.
And playing the titular vampire is the talented Bill Skarsgård. “I’ll say that Bill has so transformed, I’m fearful that he might not get the credit that he deserves because he’s just… he’s not there,” Eggers says. He continues, “He felt like honoring who had come before him. It’s all very subtle.”
Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, Nicholas Hoult, and Emma Corrin also star alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Simon McBurney, and Ralph Ineson.
Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu is “a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman in 19th century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him.”
Nosferatu is slated for release sometime in 2024.
