Henry Cavill is often a name you’ll find on any fan-cast list. For almost any role, we’ll see Cavill thrown out there, but none have stuck in some fan’s minds more than the actor tackling James Bond.
Cavill can’t ignore it as well, with the Argylle actor taking time from promoting that film to address the rumors. When Total Film asks if he thinks his role in Matthew Vaughn’s new spy film will hurt his chances to suit up as Bond, the actor feels it’s not up to him and is open to whatever.
“It’s a fun character,” Cavill tells the outlet. “Whether I’m ruled out of Bond because of this or not is up to Barbara Broccoli and Mr. Wilson.”
We’ve heard Henry Cavill’s name in the 007 conversation when Superman began to fall through. Fans of Cavill have called for the actor to get the massive role, while Bond fans have been indifferent.
Everyone seems to have their feelings on who should play Bond. For years, Idris Elba was considered a perfect pick, but he found the racist backlash from the fan castings to be enough to avoid it. Aaron Taylor-Johnson was also in contention, but no progress has been made. Zack Snyder also dropped a somewhat controversial take by saying he’d like to see a younger James Bond in the films.
As for directors, that’s an even spicier conversation, though Christopher Nolan’s name has been thrown around for quite some time.
