Max’s upcoming The Penguin series, which spins out of Matt Reeves’ The Batman, has just added another member to its cast.
According to Deadline, Jared Abrahamson (The Changeling) has been cast for the eight-episode series. Exactly who he is playing is being kept under wraps for the moment, but it will be for a key recurring role throughout the season.
The Penguin will begin just days after the conclusion of The Batman, where much of Gotham City is left flooded due to The Riddler’s attack on the city and chaos is rampant. Adding to that chaos is the power vacuum left by the death of Carmine Falcone, Gotham’s ruling mobster who died at Riddler’s hands.
Oswald ‘Oz’ Cobblepot, who was played by Colin Farrell in The Batman, was Falcone’s right-hand man and will seek to take over what’s left of his empire and become Gotham’s new big boss as the series bridges the gap between The Batman and The Batman Part II, which currently has a release date of October 3rd, 2025.
Lauren LeFranc is serving as showrunner and exec producer on The Penguin along with The Batman writer-director Matt Reeves, while Craig Zobel (Mare of Easttown) is directing the first three episodes.
Taking place one week following the events of The Batman, the series explores the rise to power of Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot/Penguin in Gotham City’s criminal underworld.
Featuring in the cast of The Penguin are Colin Farrell, Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Clancy Brown, Carmen Ejogo, François Chau, David H. Holmes and Jared Abrahamson.
The Penguin is slated to stream on Max some time in 2024.
