Repo Man 2: The Wages of Beer sequel in the works from Alex Cox

February 18, 2024 by EJ Moreno

Repo Man is coming back, this time with an even wilder sequel as Repo Man 2: The Wages of Beer will see Alex Cox directing Kiowa Gordon in a sequel to the 1984 cult classic.

The original film ended with Otto as he boarded his trusty 1967 Chevy Malibu to journey across the infinities of time and space. In his absence, he has aged exactly 90 minutes, while the world around him has moved on to the present day.

Variety confirms that the project is being introduced to buyers at the Berlin Film Festival and European Film Market. Kiowa Gordon is set to lead the cast as a new take on Otto, played by Emilio Estevez in the original film. Gordon is best known for his role as Embry Call in The Twilight Saga and for his work in the AMC series Dark Winds.

“Otto used to spend all night cruising around bad neighborhoods looking for cars. Now he spends all night on the internet doing the same thing,” Cox said. “Instead of hot-wiring the vehicle, Otto takes control of the onboard computers and directs it to the repo yard, or the sheriff’s substation. Yet this is not enough for Otto, who has only aged by 90 minutes in the last 40 years. He yearns for past simplicities: beer, booty, and no nuclear war.”

The filmmakers promise to “deliver an enthralling mix of punk energy, existential comedy, and unconventional storytelling, navigating the absurd and chaotic world of repo men into a new age of nuclear brinkmanship and driverless cars.”

“Growing up, Repo Man was one of my favorite films, so to get an opportunity to work on the sequel with everyone involved is incredibly exciting,” said Engelhard, who serves as Buffalo 8’s head of production.
