Yorgos Lanthimos has one of his follow-ups to Poor Things planned, and it’s a remake of an iconic South Korean fantasy comedy.
Variety notes Lanthimos will helm Save the Green Planet, a new take on a 2003 South Korean film by Jang Joon-hwan. The filmmaker has been working on what Variety describes as a “long-gestated project” as it preps for a summer shoot.
The project is described as “an eccentric black comedy involving a disillusioned young man who captures and tortures a businessman whom he believes to be part of an alien invasion. A battle of wits ensues between the captor, his devoted girlfriend, the businessman, and a private detective.”
Yorgos Lanthimos is on the awards trail heading towards the 96th Academy Awards. Poor Things has 11 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actress.
He’s already shot his direct follow-up to the award-winning film titled Kinds of Kindness. The film stars Emma Stone, Margaret Qualley, Willem Dafoe, and Joe Alwyn and is currently in post-production.
The 2003 award-winning Save the Green Planet was previously almost remade by its original filmmaker based on a screenplay by Will Tracy. There’s no word on that project at the time of reporting.
