The Moana gang is all back together.
Deadline broke the story that Moana 2, the animated follow-up to the 2016 hit film, has added the returning Auli’i Cravalho as the voice actor for the titular hero.
While it was confirmed a few weeks ago that Dwayne Johnson was set to return to voice Maui, it was unsure if Cravalho would want to voice the role again. She’s now back and set for this new installment, even after turning down the live-action version.
In May of 2023, it was announced that Cravalho would not return for the live-action version. The actress stated then, “I’m truly honored to pass this baton to the next young woman of Pacific Island descent, to honor our incredible Pacific people’s cultures and communities that help inspire her story. And I look forward to all the beautiful Pacific representations to come. Mahalo.”
The sequel is directed by Dave Derrick Jr., with music by Grammy winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy nominee Opetaia Foa’i, and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina.
