Joshua Jackson better brush up on those action skills as he joins the long-running Karate Kid franchise, with THR reporting that Jackson has been cast alongside Ben Wang, Jackie Chan, and Ralph Macchio in Sony’s untitled new Karate Kid movie.
Few details have been released, but what we do know is the new installment will bring the story to the East Coast and focus on a teen from China (Wang) who finds strength and direction via martial arts and a tough but wise mentor (or two). Chan and Macchio will be reprising their roles from previous installments.
At the time of writing, there’s no real information concerning Jackson’s role, but THR notes that he is described as one of the “main characters in the piece.”
This new Karate Kid marks Joshua Jackson’s first feature film role in a decade. He got his original claim to fame by starring in Dawson’s Creek as the infamous Pacey Witter but has since made a splash all over television. Jackson recently appeared in the Paramount+ drama Fatal Attraction and Peacock’s Dr. Death, which earned the actor a 2022 Critics Choice Award.
Sony’s Karate Kid is directed by Jonathan Entwistle, known for helming I’m Not Okay With This and The End of the F***ing World. Rob Lieber wrote the script, and the film is set for release on December 13th.
