As Jason Voorhees superfans will know, it’s been over a decade since we’ve seen a new Friday the 13th. While a cult classic video game and some fan films have kept things afloat, legal battles have kept us from getting the anticipated thirteenth entry.
With A24 developing a prequel, another production company wants in on the Friday the 13th universe, and it’s the iconic Blumhouse.Collider’s Perri Nemiroff recently asked Jason Blum about a film or television series he’d instantly greenlit and named the Jason Voorhees-filled slasher his pick.
“Friday the 13th is what I would do,” he answered. “It’s not a Blumhouse project, but I’m trying to will it into being one. It’s just a piece of IP I’ve always loved.”
For Blum already has a producing partner or even possible director in mind, business partner James Wan, adding, “And James Wan and Atomic Monster are very passionate about it, and I think we would have them shepherd it for us. That would be a lot of fun.”
