Elle Woods is a staple movie character of the 00s. Reese Witherspoon took the blonde law student and made her a culture icon, and she’s getting another stab at it. But this time, she’s taking over the small screen.
Deadline broke the news that Witherspoon’s company, Hello Sunshine, is developing something related to Legally Blonde at Amazon MGM Studios.
One of the projects is being written by Gossip Girl‘s Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who are set to executive produce it. The report also notes plans are in place to “further expand the Legally Blonde TV universe with a potential second spinoff series, which is still in preliminary idea stages.”
For those who don’t remember, Amazon’s acquisition of the MGM Library opened up the possibility of many new films and shows, with Legally Blonde being on the list of potential productions. As for Witherspoon, she’s become quite the producing mogul in recent years; Hello Sunshine even recently made the Prime Video limited series Daisy Jones & the Six.
Starring Witherspoon as Harvard Law student Elle Woods, Legally Blonde debuted in 2001. Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde dropped a few years later in 2009, followed by a less-than-memorable 2009 direct-to-video spinoff, Legally Blondes.
There’s no update on Legally Blonde 3, which has been in the works for several years.
