Lionsgate has announced that it has picked up the UK rights to Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, the upcoming sci-fi from writer-director Luc Besson, which stars Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne.
“We are thrilled to add such a unique and exciting project to our 2017 slate,” states Zygi Kamasa, Lionsgate UK CEO. “Luc is a one-of-a-kind filmmaker and has a visionary way to bring stories to life, so we can’t wait to see how he brings Valerian to life for cinemagoers.”
Based on the French comic series Valerian and Laureline, the film sees DeHaan (Valerian) and Delevingne (Laureline) as special operatives for the government of the human territories charged with maintaining order throughout the universe.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is slated for release in 2017.
