With filmmaker Joachim Rønning taking over the TRON franchise, a third installment could completely shatter expectations and filmmaking notions.
One of the stars behind TRON: Ares is hyping up the film with Cameron Monaghan comparing it to the movie that came before it. Speaking to Collider’s Maggie Lovitt, Monaghan dishes on the upcoming Disney production, recalling seeing TRON: Legacy and praising its forward-thinking filmmaking:
“I just saw [it] projected in 35MM at the New Beverly last year, and it really holds up and has that amazing soundtrack by Daft Punk. So I like that those movies have a number of years of separation between them. They don’t come out very often, and every time they do, they show a new era of technology and filmmaking.”
Monaghan says the new film, currently in production, will continue that boundary-pushing ideology:
“I think this one, in a very similar way, is going to really push forward what can be done from a visual perspective.” He notes, “I would sometimes even come in on days I wasn’t working because that set was really amazing. A lot of the practical sets were pretty phenomenal, and I would love to go look at those as well.”
TRON: Ares is scheduled to be released theatrically on October 10th, 2025 and stars Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, Gillian Anderson, and Sarah Desjardins.
