Having revealed his involvement on a podcast last week, the official Disney Studios’ social media accounts have now officially confirmed that Jeff Bridges is returning to the grid with a role in TRON: Ares, the currently-in-production third instalment in the sci-fi franchise.

Bridges led the cast of the 1982 movie TRON, portraying Kevin Flynn, a video game developer who finds himself transported into a digital world where he is forced to participate in a series of gladiator-style games. Bridges would return for the 2010 sequel TRON: Legacy, which included an early example of digital de-aging.
There’s no word yet as to how Bridges will factor into the plot of TRON: Ares, which follows Jared Leto’s highly-advanced computer program Ares, who is sent on a dangerous mission into the real world, marking mankind’s fist encounter with A.I. beings.
